I agree with your view that assessment can give us a view of the child.
Therefore, we need to use that assessment and create learning around our students to meet their individual's needs.
We may see assessing the passions, interests and needs of students as nothing much but it tells us alot of information about the child and how to cater to the child's needs.
This can make our work easily if we assess those area and use the information we gain effectively.
